// Community Engagement //
Upon enrolling at Texas A&M University, I was immediately drawn to the Aggie community and the compassionate individuals who aided me in my journey towards becoming an undergraduate student. As an individual, I strive to pass on this sense of compassion and serve the greater good. Natalie Portman once stated, "Our generation has the ability and the responsibility to make our ever-more connected world a more hopeful, stable, and peaceful place." This quote perfectly encapsulates my passion for positively impacting humanity.
My religious and ethical beliefs compel me to help and empathize with others. Pursuing my education provides me with a greater chance to fulfill this goal. As such, I eagerly anticipate opportunities to help other Aggies and members of the community, as it is both a moral and humanitarian obligation.
Involvement in the University Honors program, NSBE Regional Executive Board, and other peer mentoring programs has allowed me to impact my local and national communities in profound ways. Through the University Honors program, I have volunteered at grand-opening events and other sponsored occasions, while also serving as a Sophomore Advisor. Alongside my colleagues, we are currently collaborating to establish possible events during Howdy Week for students to interact and forge relationships. Peer mentoring is particularly fulfilling for me as it involves building relationships, offering valuable experience, and academic advice.
In the spring semester, I was fortunate enough to be selected as a 'Peer-Note Taker' for the Disability Services Office. This was an entirely new type of volunteer work for me, and I found it to be a valuable experience. My duties included serving as a note-taker, reliable reference, and providing calculus notes to a shared Google Drive for a fellow student in my MATH 152 class. I was eager to share useful information and help other students, all while organizing and submitting my notes in a timely manner. In total, I volunteered for 37 hours throughout the semester. This experience humbled me and reminded me that there are numerous ways to assist people, and it all depends on one's determination and enthusiasm.
Looking towards the future, I am eager to expand my community involvement further. Through my anticipated role as a Sophomore Advisor and my regional position as the NSBE Region V Academic Excellence Chair, I am confident that I will continue to grow and expand my contributions locally and nationally. For me, serving the greater good involves embodying the qualities of a respectful leader, a conscious student, a good friend, and a humble citizen. As an Aggie, I am committed to upholding the core value of 'Selfless-Service' and will always strive to spread compassion to our communities and all of humanity.
