About Me
Howdy! My name is Hunter Syas and I am a Fightin' Texas Aggie undergraduate student at Texas A&M University. I am majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Sociology and Mathematics. I want to pursue a medical, entrepreneurial, and technology career. I am passionate about improving healthcare for underdeveloped communities where I can make a difference in the lives of others. My goal is to contribute to the development and implementation of innovative solutions that address the unique healthcare challenges faced by these communities. I am excited to work with like-minded individuals who share my vision for a more equitable healthcare system and look forward to exploring opportunities to make a positive impact in this field.
I have been fortunate to participate in several activities that I am deeply passionate about. As a Sophomore Advisor Peer Mentor in the Texas A&M University Honors program, I have had the privilege of guiding and supporting my fellow students. Additionally, my involvement in NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) as the Region V Academic Excellence Chair and in athletic swimming has allowed me to develop valuable skills and perspectives.
I am honored to have been nominated as a 2020 Phi Kappa Phi Dean’s Excellence Award Finalist, and grateful for the opportunities provided by the Google Computer Science Summer Institute (CSSI) and NASA High School Aerospace Scholars programs, both of which have enriched my academic and personal growth.
I am grateful for the diverse range of professional experiences that I have been fortunate to be a part of. These include a co-op/internship position with Texas Heart Institute at the Houston, Texas Medical Center, where I gained valuable insights into the medical field. I also had the opportunity to work as a web developer in the mechanical engineering department at Texas A&M, and served as a peer grader (TA) for BMEN 353, a medical device design class in biomedical engineering. Looking ahead, I am excited to pursue an internship with MERCK Pharmaceuticals in the Summer of 2023, where I hope to continue expanding my skills and knowledge in the field of pharmaceuticals. Each of these experiences has allowed me to develop professionally and personally, and I am eager to see where my journey takes me next.
I strive to be a considerable candidate for all my future endeavors by broadening my perspective, acknowledging diversity, enrolling in challenging courses, and continuing to befriend and network myself with others.
