To Be A Leader You Must Learn It First

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

// Growth in Leadership //

Peer mentoring has been a transformative experience for me, teaching me valuable lessons about leadership and facilitation. As a facilitator, it is important to recognize and appreciate multiple perspectives in a discussion, allowing for informative and perceptive conversations. Through the mentorship program, I honed my ability to handle professional conversations and inspire growth in my personal and academic life. The program addressed important topics like mental health, social identification, race and equality, success advice, and merit symposiums, encouraging networking and professionalism. Not only did I effectively follow the mentorship curriculum, but I also gained empowering leadership experience. As Aggies, we are symbolic of leadership and success, especially when working together. This mindset has motivated me to apply my leadership experience and character to a corporate biomedical engineering position, establishing a diverse, productive, and confident work environment for my entrepreneurship.

For prospective students seeking experience or inspiration, networking and determination are key. It is important to reach out to people and take advantage of opportunities that present themselves, gradually building a reputation and obtaining experience. However, it is equally important to not overwhelm oneself with inconsistent efforts that may hinder growth. Trying new things and finding inspiration in academics is crucial. For me, building with Legos in my own unique way led me to medical applications, sparking my interest in the healthcare industry and biomedical engineering. This eventually led me to learn about corporate healthcare and pharmaceutics, expanding my knowledge on the management and information systems that generate engineering projects. Everyone's path is different, but the key is to stay true to one's character and aspire to make a positive impact on others.

Looking ahead, my plans are to continue making exceptional progress towards becoming a successful Aggie leader with an Aggie ring, making a positive impact on the community around me, and writing my story. My goal is to build a strong academic and personal foundation that will promote my leadership capabilities.
