// Freshman Year Reflect //
My first year at Texas A&M will forever be one to remember. I made incredible friends, networks, experiences, and memories that have shaped me into the Aggie that I am today! Being a first-generation student to attend a very large public university was sometimes slightly intimidating. Not knowing exactly how to get to classes, how to make new friends, or how to even truly be a successful college undergraduate freshman were frequent questions of doubt that I always pondered about. But being immersed in this diverse, gregarious, academic, and collaborative society at Texas A&M has really had a major effect on my personality and way of thinking. I have experienced a greater willingness to network and be more outgoing during conversations. The faculty and staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and are willing to serve as a source for advice academically, emotionally, and personally. I feel at home when I attend Texas A&M and participate in Access & Inclusion. It truly gives me a gracious and appreciative attitude towards learning, meeting new people, and being grateful for my progressive experience!
I love the Zachary Engineering Building Complex. Along with some of my other favorite building including the Memorial Student Center, All Faiths Chapel, the Emerging Technology Building comprised of Biomedical Engineers, and the entire Texas A&M University campus! I have a huge admiration for the striking beauty and openness that the campus presents. Not too small and not too crowded; right in the middle is the perfect kind of university for students to attend. The residential halls are very cozy. They offer efficiency, study rooms, and great ways to socialize with fellow roommates and classmates. In fact, one of my favorite memories was at the residential seminar room where a couple of students joined in on a SmashBros tournament during Howdy Week! There were great competition and even greater opportunity for me to meet and keep in touch with the countless friends I made at the event. It was even greater pleasure to simply walk to classes. Rain or shine the campus was an incredible sight and had me to look forward to learning and engaging myself within my classes. I could not have asked for a better university experience!
Long ago, and I mean about 8 months ago, when I applied to Texas A&M, I only was able to imagine what the campus, classes, and people would look like. What would it be like to be a member of the Aggie Experience? Would I succeed? It almost seemed overwhelming at first, but I am so glad that I applied anyways. Now, I looked forward to an incredible engineering program as an upcoming Biomedical Engineer minoring in Electrical Engineering. Then I hope to gain a Masters in Finance through the STEM to STOCKS Mays Business School program. And hopefully, along the way I can continue to participate in great leadership opportunities, incredible seminar classes such as Access & Inclusion, and further understand my importance as an undergraduate student. Knowing how I can truly leave an impact on this prestigious university. At first, it was not as easy as it seems. There were so many doors of opportunity that opened up and I ended up taking on too much. But slowly as the year went on, I discovered what I was passionate about; what I found fascinating in Biomedical Engineering and research opportunities. I knew more on how to better engage myself in meaningful organizations and leadership positions, such as NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), BMES (Biomedical Engineering Society), and the prestigious Texas A&M University Honors program!
As I reflect on my first year of Texas A&M, it only excites me for what the future holds. Inspiring me to ask more questions like: What other opportunities lie ahead? What other challenges can I take on? When will I get that Aggie Ring!? and How will I make an Aggie impact? Only time will tell, but right now I will put forth 110 % effort in all my endeavors to prepare me for any opportunity!
